The most important thing is to have the advice of specialists

At Gaia Travel Network, we have partnerships with specialized professionals around the world.

Traveling around the world for the first time?

How long?

After «How much does it cost?», the most frequently asked question is, «How much time should I spend in each city?»

Let’s say you have two or three weeks of vacation. That can be extremely exhausting, making the trip lose its original purpose and no longer enjoyable.

So, based on the total length of your trip, with professional operators, it’s easier than you think.

THEN BASED ON THE TOTAL TIME OF YOUR TRIP

Divide it so that you spend at least two nights in each city.

The fewer cities you visit, the more enjoyable the trip will be. I recommend the following:

Make a list of the countries you’d like to visit and then the cities in each of them. From that list, choose only three countries—those that are your dream and you can’t pass up. Then, allow at least two days per city and see if it fits into your total trip time. Otherwise, you’ll have to reduce the list.

Why do I emphasize this? Because the more you want to see, the less you’ll enjoy it; at the end of the day, you’ll just be taking photos of everything and anything, and when you return home, many of those photos won’t even know where they were taken.

It’s preferable to plan for three days of accommodation in some cities because you have to factor in transfers, which we’ll discuss later, since you’ll practically lose half a day or the whole day in transfers.

What to pack?

For the love of God, pack light.

I understand that if it’s your first trip, you might want to pack your entire wardrobe so you look gorgeous in your photos, but if it’s your first international trip, let me tell you: packing is a real pain.

If you’re traveling on low-cost airlines, a large piece of luggage can almost double the price of your ticket, so pack everything so it fits in a carry-on bag and doesn’t exceed 10 kg. You have two options for carrying it:

Backpack

In my case, I travel with a backpack that weighs 11 kg and a small one that weighs 2-3 kg. But keep in mind that my trip is all over the world. You can perfectly achieve this; a backpack gives you a lot of flexibility since it’s easy to carry everywhere, and if you compress it properly, it fits any carry-on size.

Suitcase

You can choose a suitcase that doesn’t exceed the established carry-on size. It’s worth mentioning that each airline has its own policy, so double-check which airlines you’re taking with your means of transportation and check their measurements so you don’t have a bad time and end up paying more at check-in.
